History

Progressive Insurance was started in Ohio in 1937 by two young lawyers, Joseph Lewis and Jack Green. Within only a few years of opening the business, they had already begun to change the insurance industry. A couple of cases in point: Progressive was the first to offer drive-in claims service and premium payment plans.

In the 1970s, Progressive went through a number of big changes. In 1971, the company went public. In 1974, it moved its home office to the suburbs of Cleveland. By the 1990s, Progressive was the first major insurer to launch a website. Something that didn’t change in all that time was its leadership. Specifically, it stayed in Lewis’ family until 2000, when current CEO Glenn Renwick took over.

Today, Progressive is best known for its commercials, featuring iconic spokeswoman Flo. The company also sponsors the Cleveland Indians and the Gator Bowl college football game.

Claims Process

To file a claim with Progressive, click here.
If you’ve filed a claim, and wish to view it, you can do so here.

For vehicle insurance claims, Progressive first asks that you report the incident by either logging into your account or calling its 1-800 number. After speaking with a representative, a claims agent will contact you to further assess the damages. Progressive then inspects the vehicle itself and provides an estimate for the needed repairs. Once your vehicle is being repaired, Progressive consistently checks on it to ensure the process is going smoothly. An incentive the company has is if a customer uses a Progressive Service Center, he or she will be guaranteed repairs as long as he/she owns or leases that specific car.

You may also contact your insurance agent, or call 1 (800) 274-4499, 24 hours a day.
