History

AAA, often referenced as “Triple A” was founded in 1902 in Chicago, Illinois. A band of local motor clubs formed the company in response to the lack of roads and highways. In 1904, AAA merged with the American Motor League, which was the very first automobile organization. Triple A started a School Safety Patrol Program and worked to reduce pedestrian injuries by publishing a safety guide. Triple A also produced road maps and much more.

In the late 1990s, AAA unveiled “Teaching Teens to Drive.” This driver’s education program is for parents that want to be involved in teen driving education. Today, AAA continues to provide great roadside assistance for its customers. It also sells roadside assistance for a variety of vehicles, including motorcycles and, in some areas, bicycles.
