History

Farmers Insurance Group was founded in 1928 by John C. Tyler and Thomas E. Leavey. Both men grew up in rural families and had extensive farming backgrounds. John and Thomas dreamt of a time when farmers could acquire insurance for their vehicles. In 1928, that dream was realized when their insurance business opened in downtown Los Angeles. Over the decades, Farmers added truck, home, life, and other insurance products to its services.

Today, Farmers serves as the title sponsor of the Farmers Insurance Open PGA tournament at Torrey Pines. They also raise funds as part of the PGA tournament. And also through the Century Club of San Diego for local charities. Aside from that, Farmers continues its legacy of providing insurance and good service to those who need it.

Claims Process

Click here to file a claim with Farmers.

Farmers has a five-step claims process that sees every claim through from start to finish.

  1. Claim Assignment. When the company receives the claim, they’ll assign it to a claim professional.
  2. Initial contact. Once the professional looks over the claim, you’ll be contacted to talk to you about your policy. The professional will explain how your claim will be handled. They'll even suggest more ways to ensure your property is protected from further damage.
  3. Estimate and evaluation. This will determine what is and isn’t covered. It also assess the overall damages. Witnesses or other people involved may be interviewed to gather more helpful data.
  4. Resolution. Farmers will work with you to resolve your claim. You'll either be paid what you’re owed or be told why your claim cannot be covered or paid.
  5. Closing the claim. This final step is pretty straightforward. Your claim will be processed under the terms of your coverage. Should there be more expenses, Farmers can reopen your claim.
