We made you a mixed tape!

We’re dating ourselves here but saying “We made you an online collection of digital songs” just didn’t have the same ring to it.

These 10 songs serve as a soundtrack throughout the many turns insurance agents must take in their quest for the ultimate professional success. Have a listen or just read the lyrics of these famous songs to see what we mean.

It's My Life - Bon Jovi

Insurance agents are self starters and controllers of their own destiny. You’re the person who controls your salary. You can’t be passive and wait for customers to come to you. Get out there. Market yourself as a leading insurance agent. Put yourself in networking situations. Teach classes in your community. The only limit to your success is yourself.

“This ain't a song for the broken-hearted
No silent prayer for the faith-departed
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice
When I shout it out loud
It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive”

Firework - Katy Perry

You know you just want to belt out a few lines of this one. It’s time to meet a new prospect. Are you pumped up? Whether you’re new to selling, or you’ve been around for quite some time, connecting with new leads can be nerve wracking. If speaking isn’t your forte, take a moment before walking into to your meeting and repeat these lyrics to yourself – okay, maybe sing them; we’re not judging.

“You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the fourth of July
'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what you’re worth
Make 'em go "oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y“

Yes, there are other insurance agents out there, but there is no other you, and you deserve a chance to shine. So take it!

Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel

When you entered the world of sales, you might not have expected you’d also need to emotionally support your clients in tough times. Fires burn down houses you’ve insured, and families are left homeless. Accidents happen and cars are totalled. If you sell life insurance, you’ll never forget the first time someone puts in a claim. You’re involved in some of the most difficult moments in a person’s life, and it’s your responsibility to help them get through to the other side. Be their bridge.

“When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you (ooo)
I'll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down”

Like a Rock - Bob Seger

No one ever said selling was easy. When you work in the insurance industry, it’s important you have a solid foundation. Some clients will take their frustrations out on you. Others will ask you to bend the rules. If you want to make it in this field, make sure you’re able to stand strong in a tough environment. Realize that your clients are stressed, and don’t take their anxiety personally. Stick to your values.

“Like a rock, I was strong as I could be
Like a rock, nothin' ever got to me
Like a rock, I was something to see
Like a rock”

Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan

Selling insurance isn’t the easiest job. Your clients will differ based on the products you sell and the socio-economic backgrounds they come from. It’s your challenge to meet them where they’re at. One day you’ll meet with a CEO about supplying an entire benefits package for the company, but the next day you’ll sell an auto policy to a teenager. You’ll talk life insurance with young couples who can barely afford the smallest policy you offer. Can you put yourself in their shoes, and figure out an empathetic way to meet their needs?

“How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone.”

Hound Dog - Elvis Presley

Let’s face it: anyone who has to work with customers will eventually have to deal with, shall we say, difficult people. If being polite when dealing with a less-than-polite customer has you feeling down, turn up the volume, because it’s impossible not to sway with the music. Plus, the words will resonate with you, too. Here’s some advice though: refrain from repeating the lyrics to any customers. They won’t find humor in them as you do.

“You ain't nothin' but a hound dog
Cryin' all the time”

Survivor - Destiny’s Child

Ever work with an abusive client or business? The type that always questions you, demands too much from you, and never follows through on their promises? If you leave meetings or end calls questioning yourself, it might be time to end the relationship. If you’re in this situation, remind of all the other times you’ve helped clients and the value you’ve brought into their lives. You’ll get through this… you’re a survivor.

“I’m a survivor. I’m not going to give up.
I’m not going to stop. I’m going to work harder.
I’m a survivor. I’m going to make it.
I will survive. Keep on surviving.”

Happy Together - The Turtles

There’s nothing better than making a great connection with a client. When you find customers you can potentially have a long-term relationship with, foster it! Let them know you value their business just as much as they appreciate your hardwork. Send thank-you cards, call to check in, and don’t become passive once you’re comfortable with each other. The hard they see you’re working for their business, the more loyal they’ll be.

“Me and you and you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you and you for me
So happy together”

Money - Pink Floyd

Is business going well? Want to keep it that way? Here’s how to do it: keep hustling. Seriously. To keep your business going strong, you need more sales. The harder you work to get your name in front of new prospects, the more chance you’ll have to expand. Don’t forget about the importance of nurturing your current customers or reaching out to them to ask for referrals.

“Money, get away.
Get a good job with good pay and you’re okay.
Money, it’s a gas.
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I’ll buy me a football team.”

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz-UvQYAmbg

You’ve been prospecting and now you have a list of ideal leads you have to pitch your services to. For some, the idea of cold calling stops them before they get started, but not you. You’re a motivated go-getter who will do anything to get yourself in front of the decision-makers. So, what are you waiting for? Go get ‘em!

“Don’t you know that there ain’t no mountain high enough.
Ain’t no valley low enough, ain’t no river wide enough.
To keep me from getting to you, baby”
